സോऽര്യമാ സ വരുണഃ സ രുദ്രഃ സ മഹാദേവ |
രശ്മിർഭിർതഭ ആഭൃതം മഹേന്ദ്ര എത്യാവൃത: ||

ഈ മന്ത്രത്തിൽ ഈശ്വരൻ്റെ അനേക നാമങ്ങൾ പരാമർശിക്കപ്പെട്ടിട്ടുണ്ട്.
അര്യമ = ഏറ്റവും ശ്രേഷ്ഠമായതിനെ ബഹുമാനിക്കുന്ന പരമപിതാവായ പരമാത്മാവ്.
മഹാദേവൻ = ദേവന്മാരുടെ ദേവനായ, മഹാദാനിയായ പരമാത്മാവ്.
വരുണൺ = സർവ്വശ്രേഷ്ഠൻ
രുദ്രൻ = ദുഷ്ടനെ കരയിപ്പിക്കുന്ന ജ്ഞാനി
മഹേന്ദ്രൻ = ഇല്ലാവരെക്കാളും ഉയർന്നവനും മഹാനുമായ ഐശ്വര്യവാൻ.
